This is achieved by first precharging the controller slowly through a resistor prior to closing the contactor.
These resistors from Alltrax are the simplest way to achieve precharge in your EV. They have a 1Kohm resistance which makes them suitable for leaving in circuit permanently, allowing enough current to flow that the controller's capacitors stay charged, but far from enough to actually drive the motor.
They have 3/8 inch ring terminals for attaching to Albright-style contactors. The simple circuit diagram on our Tech Info: Circuit Diagrams page shows this graphically.
